Award WinnerS

“Live Your Dream: Education & Training Awards for Women.”

This is a very appropriate title, since most of our applicants are striving to live their dream!

Through this program we assist women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. In the 2020 awards cycle, the Soroptimist Club of Greater Fort Lauderdale was able to assist three applicants in their endeavors. Plans are being made for a celebration to be held in the near future.

Recipients who are enrolled in or have been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program may use this cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare and transportation.

Our annual awards banquet in March 2015 was said to be the very best evening ever because of the behavior of a four year old child turning from happy and smiling to unstoppable tears.  Everyone in the room was searching for a handkerchief as Mom, Jaree Bush received her check, flowers and certificate from “Live Your Dream” Chair, Barbara Moore.

The child was so happy to see her Mom honored, beaming, clapping and glowing but when her Mother began to speak little Jaree’s smile turned to tears of joy for her Mother.

Jaree Bush was raised by her Grandmother and faced many obstacles while still in High School but she too had a dream and graduated with honors.  Focused, determined and with a positive attitude Jaree is on the way  to achieving and living her dream.

A beautiful role model for her daughter, Jaree learned many life lessons along the way and now, attending Sanford Brown Institute, her goal is to finish the Medical Assistant program and graduate with straight A’s and a 4.0 GPA!

Jaree we wish you much success in all your future endeavors!

Congratulations to another awardee,  Johanne Lugo, who shares her thanks and explains why she has joined our club!

I was honored this past spring by being selected as a recipient of the Live Your Dream Award through the Soroptomist Club of Fort Lauderdale. This award allowed me to continue my studies in Social Work which is something that I’d wanted to do for a long time but due to life’s hardships always had to put on hold.

Because of the Live Your Dream Award, I was able to finish my last semester at Broward College and was able to graduate with my Associates. This was just one hurdle that you helped me jump to reach my dreams of not only helping others in our community in need but also provide a better future to my two young sons. The ripple effects of the amazing work that the Soroptomist Club of Fort Lauderdale does not only affect the individual but all of those around her and the future generation of the women they help. As I complete my education at Florida Atlantic University, I can’t help but reflect and be thankful.

I am now a proud member of the Soroptomist Club of Ft. Lauderdale. I not only wanted to receive but also want to give back, this has been a true blessing and I am looking forward to helping other girls and women in our community who have a need.
