Members belong to local clubs, which determine the focus of volunteer work in their communities. Club projects range from participating in organization-wide programs including the Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women, Soroptimist Dream It, Be It, Career Support for Girls Program, sponsoring career role models, mentors and self-esteem workshops for teenage girls. Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls, Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence and contributing to the local Human Trafficking Coalitions.
Soroptimist International of Greater Ft. Lauderdale was founded on October 17, 1946. The first major project was to assist the Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive in December and we continue our dedication ever since that first holiday season. The club is committed to the Broward Human Trafficking Coalition to stop human and sex trafficking by sponsoring events and speakers to help keep our community informed. On a lighter side we enjoy honoring our scholarship winners each year and our annual Valentine’s Day Party for the Pace Center for Girls.
Soroptimist International of the America’s (www.soroptimist.org) also sponsors Live Your Dream.org, an online community empowering offline volunteer action. The self-motivated network is made up of people who wish to support women and girls in their quest to lead better lives, while gaining inspiration in their own lives. Members of the free online community work on topics such as women’s economic empowerment, ending violence against women, human trafficking, and more. They also have access to inspirational articles, tips, and blogs that can help them live their own personal dreams.
